PCIN.net Update blog is powered by b2evolution. It is open source software, and part of the community that uses it is a community antispam list. This has worked wonders on the hundreds of junk sites that have visited my sites and sucked up bandwidth.
Unfortunately it isn’t perfect. Occasionally there is some automated system that visits the site and leaves innappropriate comments that don’t really fit anything that is setup in the antispam filter. I’m working on eliminating those.
Thank you for your patience.

Cory Doctorow from Boing Boing has made an interesting post claiming the music business attempts to shut down P2P networks is detrimental to their own online sales business based on reports from NPD Group which found online distribution of purchased songs was up 52 per cent and illegal downloading of songs was up by a quarter.

A small version of the cartoon should load below, but may not be available in the future:

It used to be that everyone who had a Gmail account would have half a dozen Gmail invites to pass along to others. Remember, Gmail is still in beta, and so you need to be invited in order to get an account. Then a couple of months ago they upped the number of invites to 50. A couple of times I donated 10 invites to the Gmail Invite Spooler and within a few days I would end up back at 50 again. Well, about 2 weeks ago I donated 40 invites to the Gmail Invite Spooler and today I’m back up to 50 again.
If you want an invite, I suggest you check out the Gmail Invite Spooler. If you want an invitation from Chris me directly, just let us know.
I finally got a DVD writer. My father-in-law purchased a new computer, and before he gave his old one away (I didn’t need it), he took the DVD writer out of it. It is an LG GSA-4120B. Now I can finally backup those GBs worth of pictures I have.

If you’ve put in a Web site inquiry, consultant Terry Golesworthy explains why you shouldn’t hold your breath waiting for a response.
Why don’t more corporations respond to online inquiries? That’s one of the questions that continue to puzzle me as I analyze Web sites.
Given the efforts marketing departments make to collect customer data, one would think they’d see an incoming query as a gift. But too many corporations don’t see it that way, including the financial services firms my research firm recently surveyed in our First Quarter 2005 report.

Recording Industry Association of America said Tuesday it would file suit against students at 18 universities accused of trading files on the supercharged Internet2 network.
The suits, to be filed Wednesday, are the first to focus on the next-generation research network operated by universities. The i2Hub file-swapping service has operated for a year on campuses that are connected to Internet2.
Recording industry executives said i2Hub had become a serious problem over time as students believed they could not be observed trading files.
“i2Hub has been seen as a safe haven, and what we wanted to do was puncture that misconception,” said Cary Sherman, president of the RIAA. “This has been a subversion of the research purposes for which Internet2 was developed.”
I’ve installed b2evolution and am just starting to test it. It looks promising. I don’t want to rely on Blogger anymore as their sites is slow.
