Poor Richard's Internet Marking and Promotions
How to Promote Yourself, Your Business, Your
Ideas Online

ISBN: 0966103270
Publisher: Top Floor Publishing
Authors: Peter Kent and Tara Calishain
As the Internet has become more popular, more and more people
claim to be experts in the field of web site promotion. Every
few days I get an email (obviously spam, junk email) saying that
they can help me increase my rankings in the search engines. The
question remains, how can they help thousands of clients end up
in the top 10 of similar categories, when there is only 10 spots?
Anyway, well-known author Peter Kent, along with Tara Calishain,
have written Poor Richard's Internet Marketing and Promotions,
but they don't give you any hollow promises. They just present
in a straightforward manor, ways to promote your online activities,
both on and off-line.
Those of you familiar with Poor
Richard's Web Site (PRWS) or Poor
Richard's Email Publishing (PREP) will enjoy Poor
Richard's Internet Marking and Promotions (PRIM). There is
a frank, open style that makes you comfortable while reading it.
Also, Peter and Tara aren't promoting any of their own services,
so you don't have to worry about biased opinions.
The book is divided into 5 sections:
- Preparation
- Web Site Registrations
- Getting the Word Out
- E-mail PR
- Outside the Internet
The sections are self-explanatory, and the one I feel deserves
the most attention is section 5, Outside the Internet. As I said
in the beginning, you find sites all over the Internet with information
on how to submit your site to the major search engines. I find
this book most helpful with the links and information on how to
promote your site off-line. It mentions press releases, radio,
follow-ups, and more. It also explains how even though some of
the rules have changed because of the Internet, we also have to
remember that many of the rules are still the same. You need to
have quality content, good products, and treat your customers
well.
I have found myself moving away from reading stuff online. It
is good to sit back with a book and do some good-old-fashioned
reading. Reading PRIM allowed me to get away from my computer
and the Internet, while still keeping a piece of it with me. If
you are looking for a good resource when you want to prepare your
marketing plan, then PRIM is well worth the $29.95 purchase price.
