Quite a while ago, I reviewed Software602's 602Pro PC Suite.
This was a $50 US Microsoft Office Standard alternative. Although
not as feature-rich as Microsoft Office, it certainly was
an adequate solution for a home user, and much cheaper.
About a year go, the product was updated to 602Pro PC Suite
2000, and was offered for free. And now a new version has
been released, Software602's
602Pro PC Suite 2001 (and yes, it's still free). In November
2001, Software602 had their one million registered user and
they were the most popular free office suite on download.com
Rather than doing another full review, I suggest that you read
the review of the original suite at http://PCIN.net/help/software/602propcsuite.shtml
The program has certainly been updated since then (better compatibility,
more features, nicer looking interface), but the basic functionality
of the program is still the same.
I have run the software on my desktop computer (PIII 450,
256MB RAM) as well as my laptop (AMD 450, 192MB RAM). Both
systems have Office 2000 Professional installed, and 602Pro
PC Suite ran fine on both systems.
The suite comes with the following products:
- 602Tab - Spreadsheet
- 602Text - Word Processor
- 602Album - Digital Photo Album
- 602Photo - Photo Editor
There are some new features to the suite which are worth
noting:
- There is improved compatibility with Word and Excel documents
(including Office XP/2002).
- Better options are found when printing, saving, or exporting.
- 602Album (the photo editor) comes with a digital picture
organizer

suite, visit http://www.software602.com/products/pcs/whatsnew.html
In my previous review, I stated "If you are looking
for a reliable yet inexpensive Office Suite, then 602Pro PC
Suite is the one for you." Well, now that the software
is free, it is an even better alternative. If you do not need
a database (like Access) or presentation program (like Powerpoint),
then 602Pro PC Suite will do just fine.
