I first had contact with Software602
about a year and a half ago. I eventually reviewed their 602Pro
PC Suite, and I was very impressed with it. It is an excellent
program that is compatible with Microsoft Office. It provides
virtually all of the same features, but costs much, much less
than MS Office.
Well, Software602 has done it again. Based on their full
602Pro Lan Suite, they have made a "lite"
version that will allow a small home network to connect
to the Internet. One computer has the program installed on
it and acts as a proxy. The other computers in the network
(up to 3) have their browsers set to use that first computer
as the proxy. The other computers then have complete Internet
access. This is a market that wasn't really around a few years
ago, but as people upgrade their computers and purchase new
ones, they are left with their old ones, and a home network
is a viable option. This will make setting up Internet access
on the home network very easy.
The program does a lot more than just allow Internet access
though. It has many features, but the other 2 most useful
are the email features and the fax features.
Email: The proxy
computer can retrieve email from POP accounts and then distribute
the mail to the proper users on the network.
Fax: A fax client
is also installed and the users can all use the same phone
line to fax documents.
The installation routine for 602Pro
Lan Suite Lite is very smooth. Once installed, you can
use the configuration wizard. You answer a few questions and
it is ready to go.

While I was playing around the program, I messed up a few
things and didn't know exactly which settings I had been playing
with. I went to the Software602 web site and looked for their
support
section. What a pleasant surprise it was to have pages and
pages of information available for me to view. There were
screenshots, step-by-step instructions, and a support forum
where users could ask questions.
