Little Black Book of Cheap Tricks: 2001

The Little Book of Cheap Tricks

If you are or have been a subscriber to my weekly newsletter, you will be familiar with the term "Cheap Trick". This is a feature that is in each issue that is provided by WE Computer Magazine.

According to the WE Computer Magazine web site,

"WE Compute is a lot of things. In the first place, it's a magazine. You know, one of those old-fashioned things printed on paper. WE Compute Magazine is famous for three things:

  • It's the most popular computer newspaper in the alpha quadrant - at least in the Greater Toronto Area part of it.
  • It's a plain-English guide to using computers. No techie talk allowed.
  • It's the home of WE Compute's Cheap Tricks, practical undocumented computing tips and silly computing secrets."

The "Cheap Tricks" have become so popular that they were published in book form. Now in its third edition, "Little Black Book of Cheap Tricks: 2001" is bigger and better than previous versions.

The book is a softcover pocketbook that is 124 pages. It is broken down into 5 sections:

  1. Windows Tricks (approx 40 pages)
  2. Registry Magic (approx 20 pages)
  3. Applications (approx 20 pages)
  4. Online Tricks (approx 15 pages)
  5. Easter Eggs (approx 10 pages)

The "Cheap Tricks" can help you get more performance from your computer. There are tips to change the way things are displayed in Windows, tricks to access hidden features of many popular programs and some other things that are just plain fun.

The average rating for this review is: 10.00
Although the "Cheap Tricks" in the book are helpful, reading this book will not teach you everything there is to know about Windows. This book is fun. If you enjoy tweaking your system, and learning new things, then this book will do just fine. And at a price of $11.95 Cdn (approx $7.00 US), you can't lose.

I enjoy flipping through the book and sharing some of the tips with others. My newsletter subscribers love the tips, and often send me similar tips once they've been "inspired" by the "Cheap Tricks".
