OPENING THOUGHTS
Last week's poll asked you why you use Google. Jaime emailed a good comment:
"On the google search engine: there is another reason that I use it exclusively--
it isn't converting into a portal. I used Webcrawler, then Altavista, then Northernlight,
and several others, but gradually they all turned into commercial portals. Google
has a tab that is a sort-of portal, but you don't have to use it. All said,
google's no-nonsense approach has earned my confidence." I agree whole-heartedly!
I put some new pictures of Andrew up on the family web site. You can see them

The NEWS
Monster.com warns of ID theft
Responding to a growing problem, online job site Monster.com is warning new
and existing users about phony job listings that are being used to steal personal
information from job seekers.
The company has posted a warning on its Web site that read, in part:
'Regrettably, from time to time, false job listings are listed online and
used to illegally collect personal information from unsuspecting job seekers.'
The message goes on to warn users not to provide prospective employers with
any information that is not pertinent to the job opening. Social security
numbers, credit card numbers and personal information not related to one's
work history should not be disclosed, the message said."

Amazon enters domain-name game
Add domain names to the list of things that online retailer Amazon.com can
now offer to consumers.
The Seattle-based retailer has won approval from the Internet Corporation
for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). That means it will be able to sell
specific Internet addresses such as example.com, to individuals and businesses.

Taiwan forces MS to slash prices
"Microsoft will cut software prices in Taiwan by 26.7 percent to settle
an investigation into unfair trade practices, the island's competition watchdog
said Thursday.
It will also sell the components of its Office XP suite of software separately
and share its closely guarded source code for the Windows operating system
with the government, the cabinet's Fair Trade Commission said.
'Microsoft Taiwan's concrete action to lower prices of Microsoft products
is exactly in line with the Fair Trade Commission's goals of maintaining orderly
trade, consumer benefits, fair competition and economic prosperity,' the commission
said in a statement."

Protecting Google Brand 'Tricky Business'
"Competing in the cut-throat Internet search sector, and prepping for
a possible IPO, Google has good reason to promote itself. Privately, even
rivals grudgingly concede it has done a masterful job.
In recent weeks, Google beat out Apple, Coca-Cola and Starbucks for BrandChannel.com's
'brand of the year' honor and was featured in a Boston Globe Magazine cover
story chronicling the use of the company's technology as a cultural phenomenon
(albeit one that raises some privacy questions).
But even as the Mountain View, Calif., company's marketers celebrate its growing
clout (or to use the industry's Orwellian term, 'mindshare'), its intellectual
property lawyers are quietly waging a campaign to ensure Google doesn't fall
victim to its own success."

Question
How can I adjust the size of the "cache" for IE please. I have
it presently set for 5MB but I believe that this is low.
Response
Tools > Internet Options > Temporary Internet Files:{Settings...}.
Optimal size is about 20 to 30 MB depending on the speed of the internet connection.
(less for faster connections) Additionally if the computer has less than 48
MB of RAM set it to 5 to 10 MB as the size.

THE TIPS and OTHER
STUFF
Save Sent Messages in Outlook
If you like to save copies of your sent messages with the received messages
in Outlook and you sort you mail in folders, there is an easier way than moving
items from your Sent Items folder. First, tell Outlook to save sent messages
with the original message. by checking the box: In folders other than the
inbox, save replies with the message (Tools, Options, Preferences, Email Options,
Advanced Email Options). Next, move the message (rules work very well for
this) to the appropriate folder. Now when you reply, your reply will be saved
with the original message.
Changing Font Sizes
Last week I shared a tip for increasing font size in Word. Subscriber Chuck
sent this in:
"I tried your tip for increasing font size in Word ( CTRL + [ ). I found
it also works in IE, and in Netscape Mail. I am assuming it will work for
any windows application. Good tip!"
Online Greetings at FlowGo.com
I haven't looked deeply into the site, but it seems like http://www.flowgo.com/
has a lot of fun stuff. The web site says, "Flowgo offers online greetings,
humor, jokes, cartoons and other fun web content. Send free greetings and
jokes to family and friends."
Several weeks ago I included a link to a funny Flash presentation. FlowGo
also has these, and here are some links to funny ones about babies:
