Netscape tries to kill Microsoft in 2 ways
--------------------------------------------------
While Microsoft is in the midst of government suits, the head honchos at Netscape must be smiling behind closed doors. Not only will this case help them, but the are releasing their newest update to their browser suite. Netscape Communicator 4.5 is now available at http://home.netscape.com/download/index.html?cp=dmg45tt1b

The new browser has the same look and feel as the highly successful 4.0x series browser suite. There are a few new features such as Smart-Browsing, but nothing that is worth downloading all of the new files for. Jon Postel Dies October 18, 1998
-------------------------------------------
"Jon Postel, an Internet luminary and one of the most powerful men on the Net, has died of heart problems at the age of 55" is the way C/Net reported the death of this Internet Pioneer. Postel was one of the founders of the Net, and was most well known for his role in planning the critical domain naming system as head of Internet Assigned Numbers Authority. That is the government-contracted agency that runs the system that tells computers where to route all Internet traffic.

What's happening with Microsoft?
----------------------------------------------
Every week, I will provide several links to articles about the Microsoft case with the DOJ. I will provide no editorial comments, other than this. I think that Microsoft should give every company a chance to compete, but I don't think that they should be under such intense scrutiny as they are right now. People complain about the Starr report costing so much money. Well, this DOJ case won't be cheap for either side, and I don't really think that anything will come from this. A waste of time!

THE TIPS
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Keep your computer organized to find things more easily
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Like in real life, I am a neat freak when it comes to my computer. I like to keep all of my personal documents in one place, all my zips in another place. This makes it very easy for me to find things quickly when I need them. One of the best ways for me to keep my computer clean, is by using one of the Microsoft Power Toys. The Microsoft web site says that it is not to be used on Windows 98, but I have used it and it works fine. DOWNLOAD AND USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. One of the toys is a control which adds a "Send to" menu option when you right click on a file. You can send a file to the desktop as a shortcut, to any folder, to a floppy disk, etc. There are other programs which set this up for you and certain Windows updates will add some Send to options, but I find that the choices from the Power Toys are the most complete.

Well, that's all for this week. Remember that if there is anything that you want to learn about, let me know and I will try to accommodate you.
